Her Exuberantly Anointed Musical Ministry
“I’m not afraid to proclaim the word of God for I’ve faced death.” This is Maxine Duncan; confident, outspoken, and blissfully infectious in her love and enjoyment of preaching the gospel, through a ministry that includes a notable list of powerfully delivered songs.
And how could they not be? Duncan honed her skills as a singer over many years, beginning at the age of nine in her native Jamaica. Perfecting her talent in church, she was groomed and divinely anointed to spread the gospel. Still, her courage and strength would be tested over the years as she endured the murder of a brother, the loss of a sister through breast cancer, and eluded death herself on a number of occasions while being robbed at gun point.
Her faith would remain unshaken and after moving to the United States, Duncan briefly sang with the gospel group Prophecy Sons of God, through which she came to the attention of popular radio personality Gil Bailey. Mr. Bailey’s introduction of Duncan to radio and concert audiences garnered her critical acclaim.
The gospel industry took note and began to pay tribute, through a number of impressive awards, such as The Gil and Pat Bailey’s Certificate of Achievement in 2000 as well as their award for the Best Female Gospel Artist of 2008 and 2009; Hopeton Lewis’ award for Female Artist of the Year in 2009, Love Gospel Radio’s Bishop Baker’s award for Female Entertainer of the Year in 2010, Hopeton Lewis Awards for Album and song of the year for the “I Am Committed (to Jesus)” Album in 2011, and Love Gospel Radio’s Bishop Baker’s award for Female Artist / Evangelist of the year 2012.
I’m Committed to Jesus is her latest CD for which she has prodigiously written eleven original songs, and judging by the tremendous international response to the first release, Glory and Honor to the King, her infectious ministry seems clearly destined to infect the entire world.
